Although climate change is a global challenge, cities, states, and regions are vital agents of change. That’s why Barr’s Climate Program focuses on supporting equitable solutions and leadership that originate at the local level.
We also understand that climate change is inherently linked to other forms of oppression. As we work on the climate crisis, we must also address the unequal burdens that have been placed on communities of color and others who suffer the most from the fossil fuel economy. That is why we prioritize frontline communities and climate organizations whose work is centered on equity.
In addition to supporting organizations that help build a more multi-racial and inclusive climate movement, we pursue three strategies:
