Social Change Leaders

Within our Social Change Leaders strategy, we invest in highly capable leaders who are willing to think differently, develop new approaches, and collaborate to drive change. We envision a flourishing ecosystem for leadership throughout Massachusetts, where diverse networks of cross-sector, intergenerational changemakers—who represent those most impacted by challenges in the region—are working together to create a more equitable, vibrant, and thriving Commonwealth.​ 

Barr’s grantmaking in leadership has centered on: 

• The Barr Fellowship[LINK] which has been a primary focus since 2005 
• Other networks of diverse cross-sector leaders in the region who reflect a shared interest to work together to create a more equitable, vibrant, and thriving Commonwealth. 
• Field research and targeted national efforts that advance these priorities and benefit our region. 

To “invest in leaders” is a core value at Barr across all of our focus areas. Within Sector Effectiveness and our Social Change Leaders strategy, we strive to complement and reinforce those investments.
